GRANITOS DE MACEIRA, SA was set up in June 1944 to carry out civil construction jobs, and artistic works for cemeteries, in marble.

In 1945 our first polishing machines were installed and, in the following year, the first cutting machines went into operation.

The company started working with granite in 1956, which soon became an important raw material in our plant's production.

Ten years later granite accounted for 50% of the company's total turnover.

In 1970, we stopped transforming marble completely.

In 1987 and 1988 two of the founding partners - Vasco Elisiário Tomásio and Armando da Silva Ramos - died.

It was at that time that the company became a public limited company. Then Francisco Duarte Ramos, who had been engaged for some years in enhancing the company's technical evolution, took over the helm.

GRANITOS DE MACEIRA, SA has not only progressed as far as the transformation or extraction of granite is concerned, but it has also forged ahead with a characteristic innovative and pioneering approach. This has led to its distinctive SPI and FORTE ROSA brands being sold worldwide.

Products - either in slabs or as finished goods - have been exported over the years, until they now account for around 55% of the company's business.
