IAPMEI

The Institute for the Support of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises - IAPMEI - is a Portuguese government agency operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Economy. Its mission is to design and carry out policies that support and enable companies to expand. IAPMEI focuses in particular on upgrading and innovation for small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the secondary and tertiary sectors.

   
  MAIN MISSION
Within the framework of its institutional mission, IAPMEI:
Contributes to the conception, implementation and evaluation of support-related matters for SMEs, in conjunction with sectorial policies developed by other public organizations
Ensures initiatives and institutions developed to provide technical assistance and professional training for SMEs
Gathers processes and discloses technical information of importance to SMEs
Suggest measures and implement operations liable to increase productivity and inter-corporate cooperation
Participates in defining and carrying out measures that promote sustained growth for SMEs
Administrates investment incentive systems and actively advocate SMEs to gain access to capital markets and other alternative financial instruments
   

FIELD OF ACTION

Investment incentives
IAPMEI financially backs national or foreign investments, based on sustained corporate strategies. This is done by managing various incentive schemes on a national, regional and sectorial scale.
Backing may take the form of grants, interest-free or special-interest rate loans.

Setting Up Companies
By means of a special integrated program, IAPMEI gives a helping hand to entrepreneurs who have come up with a potentially successful and innovative idea, enabling them to put their particular project into practice.

Financial Engineering
In order to provide a wider range of financing sources available to enterprises, IAPMEI has set up a financial engineering program. This program promotes the use of instruments such as venture capital, loan stock, mutual guarantees, real estate management funds, and secondary capital markets for SMEs.

 

Technical
& Technological Assistance
In partnership with various specialized organizations, such as technological centers, business and innovation centers, IAPMEI is linked to a network of services geared to provide companies with technical and technological support.

   

Technical Information
Taking advantage of a range of technical publications, on-line databases and a network of regional representation offices, IAPMEI makes available specialised support information for businesses.

Professional Training
Ever-aware of the importance of human resources in upgrading companies, IAPMEI promotes professional training for SMEs in key areas of corporate management.

Inter-corporate Cooperation
Combining a series of national and EU instruments, IAPMEI promotes inter-corporate cooperation as a corporate-development strategy.
