The great Leap abroad
Portugal has kept up with the increasing evolution of the
information technologies and electronics, with young and
dynamic companies, founded as spinovers from R&D Centers.
The Research and Development carried out in Portugal affects
the daily life of the Portuguese people. Examples of sucess
stories are the integrated system of automatic toll payment
in highways, implemented over the whole country (Via Verde),
the ATMs network service from the company SIBS, as well as
applications in the fields of e-Commerce and Artificial Intelligence,
among many others.
Developing products and solutions of great added value and
excellent competitive advantages, some companies have been
able to impose their products at the level of other highly
praised companies worldwide and became solution suppliers
for NASA, CISCO, Microsoft or INTEL, the main Japanese Banks,
as well as railway networks or aviation companies in Europe
and the USA.
