The
Parque Expo Group is the organization
behind the largest urban regeneration project ever carried out in Portugal.
Between 1993 and 1998, the Parque Expo Group focused its efforts on
pursuing the two major goals constituting its Mission. To be exact,
the environmental and urban upgrade of the Development Zone and the
holding of the Lisbon World Exhibition in 1998.
Expo98 was an extremely successful event, boasting over 10 million
visitors and a record official presence of 160 countries and international
organizations. The environmental and urban renewal of the Development
Zone connected to the Exposition, now the Parque das Nações,
is proceeding much faster than anticipated, and should be completed
by 2006/7.

The
measure of success the Parque Expo Group
has achieved means it can be identified as a unique partner in energizing
partnerships with public and private organizations involved in urban
renewal. In this respect, the Parque Expo Group
is becoming increasingly more interested in promoting and developing
large-scale urban projects (areas of more than 100 hectares) and real
estate, with the same excellence in quality of life as now prevails
in the Parque das Nacões.
The Parque Expo Groups corporate
mission is to play a role in the development of new business in areas
involving high levels of competences in urban planning, design and renewal
of infrastructures and structure-related equipment, as well as providing
animation and profitability for areas of excellence, favoring the forming
of private partnerships.
In realizing those goals the following have been taken into account:
-
downgraded industrial zones;
-
areas forming part of urban re-planning projects;
-
land whose market-value enhancement hinges on profound
urban-renewal processes;
-
land owned by organizations not possessing the know-how
needed for its development;
-
state-owned land

Currently, the Group acts as a catalyst in the strategic development
of the countrys two main metropolitan areas: Lisbon and Oporto.
Consequently, the Parque Expo Groups strategic objectives are
to:
- Consolidate and expand its involvement in other points of the country,
as regards different Business Areas, especially in Areas of Urban
Development and Environmental Upgrade;
- Consolidate the Parque das Nacões as a first-class
quality project, not only in urban and architectural terms, but in
the management of Urban Space as well;
- Develop partnerships that allow for the competences that Parque
Expo already possesses to be complemented, with a view to diversifying
the products and services currently provided by Parque Expo, focusing
on the employment of new technologies;
- Invest in globalization projects, in light of its urban regeneration
and development expertise.

Urban Development
Geared to complete the urban and real estate project
for the Parque das Nacões and develop other urban
projects of excellence; Public/Private Partnerships operating in
the Urban Real Estate/Renewal sector are well-placed to pioneer
and lead that process.
Environmental Upgrade
Directed at the development of environmental- regeneration projects
in downgraded urban zones; including participation in the execution
of 10 undertakings in as many other Portuguese cities within the
framework of the EUs Polis Program (Albufeira, Castelo Branco,
Coimbra, Costa da Caparica, Leiria, Matosinhos, Sintra, Viana
do Castelo, Vila Nova de Gaia and Viseu). Its principal objective
is to improve the quality of life in cities by means of urban
and environmental development ventures, involving a total area
of 1,704 hectares.

The Parque Expo Group also owns
various other important assets linked to culture and leisure, as is
the case of the Oceanário de Lisboa (the largest aquarium
in Europe) and the Pavilhão Atlântico (the largest
indoor auditorium in the country. Seating up to 20,000 spectators,
the
latter has been the scene of many important cultural and sporting events
in recent years in Portugal).
The Parque Expo Group, with its
staff of 317 (2004), can boast a range of truly unique competences,
with a
broad background in gentrifying and developing cities. Competences
embracing fields as diverse as design, planning, construction, marketing,
maintenance
and management of an urban environment of the highest quality, including
the animation and promotion of sporting and cultural events, and coordinating
multidisciplinary teams.
With a turnover of € 55,316 million in 2004, the Parque Expo
Group reached year-end with a consolidated net profit of € 3,9
million.
The Parque Expo Groups unique
experience is justly proven, and today the Group is certainly an investment
partner well worth having.
