SAPO is the portal leader on the Portuguese Internet, with some 2.5 million single visitors (January 2005 data). A pioneer project for the Portuguese Internet, it has always made its mark by putting its faith in innovative and diversified technological services.

Since the year 2000, when it became part of the PT Group, SAPO has experienced exponential growth and undertaken the biggest Internet project on a national level, as a brand for access, services and content on the web, for mobile platforms and terminals (WAP, PDA, GPRS…).

In recent years, one of SAPO’s main focuses has been on Broadband content and services, involving strategic partnerships with some of the leading national players in the media area. In 2003, the SAPO XL channel was launched, a Broadband content project with videos, TV broadcasts online and live events.

At the same time, SAPO has become an Internet partner in major events, such as in 2004, with Rock in Rio Lisboa, an official SAPO site, and the Minho Campus Party, the greatest lan party of Portugal, officially sponsored by PT.

SAPO’s market positioning will mean it going on to provide more services offered via cutting-edge technologies, such as MMS and real video, via GPRS - and whatever else the future may bring.
